CONVERSION , interlude

Having access to information is one thing. Understanding it, is another.

Now, what about the conversion?

Conversion ; the process of changing or causing something to change from one form to another.

When we talk about the conversion of information to knowledge - there is a reason why it is said that “knowledge is power" as opposed to “information is power". Knowledge and information are like ice and water - of the same elements but in a different form.

Often, we go through life with all kinds of information, that ,when understood and applied - would easily be the trajectory to successful living (depending on your own views of success, of course).

This means that information, is somewhat useless, until converted. Yes, it has some benefits, such as passing university state tests and what not. Although, remember that the benefits that come with information, the benefits of knowing “things" doesn’t deem you intelligent, it simply highlights that you have the ability to retain information.

The ability to retain information, somedays we run into people who simply retain too much of it. Insufferable know-it-alls.

Somedays we are blessed enough to run into people who can retain that same information, and apply it. Genuises.

Interesting, isn’t it?

The only gap between being an insufferable know-it-all and being a genuis is the conversion of information.

Note, multi-billion dollar companies no longer care about your degree, your honors, your masters, your doctorate. They hire for character, and train for skill. Having the drive to understand information, and apply it, to do better and become better is “growth mindset".

This is a characteristic that many people lack. You will find people without your qualifications, being paid more than you, doing the job you thought you deserved, simply because you lack the characteristics that prove you have the mindset to thrive.

Information only becomes truly valuable when understood and applied. Information + understanding + application = knowledge.

Knowledge = power.

Not to say that writing this, I’ve perfected the conversion theory, not at all. However, recognizing the value of conversion enables us to do the work to fill in the rest of the equation - understanding and application.

Without good reasoning, Man will remain stagnant.
